This is truly amazing. In Brussel, Belgium they have replicated a medeival carpet using begonias.  It includes close to a a million flowers and spreads out for 300 square meters.  Grass, tree bark, and other materials were added to blend the colors.  1,000 volunteers are needed to put it all together.

In 1971, the first Carpet of Flowers was created in Belgium’s capital.  Now, the carpet is recreated every two year.  The next display will be created in 2010.

You can see photographs of the 2008:

Here’s a short video showing the volunteers hard at work:

I was rambling around the web today and came across the website of artist, Peter Callesen.  He creates the most amazing things out of a sheet of white paper.  I’m amazed at such creativity out of a single form.

Check out some of his creations:

The Hayward Public Library in Hayward California has a new exhibit.  All the photographs were taken by teens.

The inspiration for the exhibit is John Stilgoe’s book “Outside Lies Magic.”  Eight teens were given digital cameras and told to explore Hayward.  They roamed the streets and captures their world through the camera’s eye.  The photographs are on display at the Hayward Public Library’s Main Branch until October 6th.

The Daily Review newspaper has a photo gallery of the kids at work:

Kevin Connolly was born without legs. The Montana native is healthy otherwise. He skateboards and has done things the rest of us born with legs only dream of.

But, his appearance causes others discomfort. He has lived his life with the stares of strangers. Though he has lived a normal life, he can’t get around those looks of pity and anxiety.

On a trip to Europe, Connolly took a photograph of one gawker. That one photograph has turned into 32,000. The photographic is exhibit is called the “Rolling Exhibition”.

The photographs capture the range of emotions people experience when they see something out of the ordinary. They don’t realize that while they are staring they’ve been observed. It’s an interest mix of expressions that he has captured.
